FAQs

What is art-based aba therapy?
Art-based ABA therapy stays true to the science behind behavior analysis, unique in the way that we integrate art into broader behavior analytic support plans. Through the use of this artistic approach, new avenues for communication and learning are opened for a population of individuals who often struggle to share their voice.
My child is in other therapies. do they still need aba?
Whether or not your child would benefit from art-based ABA therapy depends on their individual needs and goals. ABA focuses on building meaningful skills and behaviors, which can complement other therapies. Our behavior analysts can collaborate with your current team to ensure a well-rounded approach.
Who can benefit from art-based ABA therapy?
Art as a learning tool is beneficial as an alternative mode of communication, play, and self-expression. While our focus is on early intervention with neurodivergent individuals ages 2-12, art-based ABA can be beneficial for everyone. Some insurances may cap services at a specific age or require a specific diagnosis, please contact us and we can assist you.
What qualifications and certifications do your therapists have?
Every therapist on our team is certified by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB). Our BCBAs are also licensed through the Utah Division of Professional Licensing (DOPL). In addition, all behavior analysts at Radiant complete the Canvas ABA Art-Based Behavior Therapy Practitioner Certification. For more information on roles and training requirements, visit our ABA Allies page.
Are parents or caregivers involved in the therapy process?
At Radiant, we believe in the importance of collaboration and family involvement. We provide regular communication, progress updates, and guidance to families and caregivers, ensuring they are active participants in the therapy process. Additionally, we offer training and support to help generalize skills learned during therapy to the home environment.
how does radiant ensure affirming care?
Radiant provides affirming, client-centered care through staff trained in inclusive, affirming practices. We respect client autonomy, use a strengths-based approach, and actively listen to and incorporate client voices into services. Recommended hours are based on what is meaningful for each individual rather than quotas, and we have no minimum hour requirements. Our goal is to ensure care is supportive, individualized, and aligned with each client’s needs and goals.
How long does art-based ABA therapy typically last?
Our therapy is individualized to meet the unique needs of each client and is re-evaluated every six months. We often say our goal is to work ourselves out of a job—meaning we aim to support clients and their families with the skills and tools they need to be independent and no longer require services. While it is always bittersweet when a client graduates, it is also one of the most rewarding parts of the work we do.
will my insurance cover art-based aba therapy?
Your insurance may cover ABA therapy, but coverage details vary. Our team is happy to help verify your coverage. We currently accept a variety of insurance plans and are actively working to expand our in-network offerings to better serve our clients. However, we encourage families not to feel limited to in-network options alone. Finding a provider that is the right fit for your family is most important, and in some cases, single-case agreements may be available for out-of-network providers.
what does an aba session look like?
At Radiant, our sessions are art-based and affirming, with a focus on joyful, child-led activities. Through play and meaningful interactions, skills are taught naturally while respecting each client’s autonomy and individuality. Sessions are typically 2–3 hours long and take place in the client’s home. While we do not offer clinic-based services, we support learning across environments by incorporating siblings or peers as appropriate and offering sessions in community or school settings when needed.
